This position will report into the Risk Manager in London and primarily assist in the day-to-day risk management activities as well as with ad-hoc projects to improve risk processes.

Role responsibilities:

  • Identify, investigate, quantify, monitor and report risk across ofi’s business (initially focusing on Dairy and Cocoa)
  • Develop a deep understanding of the assigned businesses, spanning the entire supply chain
  • Understanding the existing risk processes, systems and reports being used and taking ownership of all risk reports and other output
  • Critically assess all existing processes/reports and drive improvements where possible, in discussion with all other stakeholders including traders
  • Provide analytical support to the risk management group, senior management and traders within the firm including ad-hoc work on risk and performance evaluation
  • Effectively communicate emerging risk issues and ensure timely action/escalation.

Personal requirements:

  • At least five years of experience with either an investment bank, a commodity trading house or trading/risk within a food ingredient company
  • Strong understanding of commodity markets: price drivers, market structure, traded products (futures, options, OTC products)
  • A strong understanding of and interest in details of the physical supply chain/market in commodities trading (e.g. basis and structure risk) is essential
  • Strong analytical capabilities including programming skills in order to take ownership of designing and maintaining high quality risk data and reports that take inputs from multiple stakeholders (e.g. traders, senior management, IT, finance)
  • Experience in credit and counterparty risk would be advantageous
  • Experience in currency markets (especially Emerging Markets) would be advantageous 
  • Experience with agricultural commodities would be advantageous
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Good communication skills 
  • Must have the right to work in the UK

Qualifications and experience:

  • University degree in a field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics or quantitative Business Studies with strong analytical/mathematical focus
  • At least five years of relevant work experience
  • Exposure to market/credit risk management in a physical commodities business
  • Proven ability to work with Python, SQL, Excel and VBA is a must
  • Additional programming and data science knowledge would be a plus
