Dairy Regional Sales Head - Africa

Three pillars of focus of this role:

  1. Business Development – depth and width
    1. We are already selling to key buyers in West Africa in 5 large markets. Further building depth with these buyers is important 
    2. We also need to open new customers in new and existing markets. Identification of the right counterparties and managing the risks will be critical.
  2. New Product Development
    The role requires focus on applications of milk powders and relaying inputs to our R&D team to develop new application focussed products. Further fine tuning our existing recipes to meet end user requirements in different markets is also desired. This role will involve closely working with the dairy technologists and food scientists and learning more about dairy on the go.
  3. Exploring P&L opportunities 
    The role demands exploring possible opportunities for distribution of milk powders through various possible models of stock and sell, JV with a distribution partner or direct distribution and could become a P&L management role in the future. 

 

Key areas of responsibility:

  • This role will focus on B2B sales into West, Central and Southern Africa for fat filled milk powder ingredients. It involves finding new customers and building relationships. 
  • Engagement with wholesalers, semi-wholesalers to track local prices, country stock situation and local demand.
  • Actively Track competition activity in the region.
  • Be on top of global demand and supply situation in dairy, movement of global prices and price forecasts. Sharing this information with the customer and become his confidant and assist him in buying at the right times.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of a sales strategy for fat filled powders in bulk and retail formats including sales volumes/values and pricing strategy.
  • Delivery of the budgeted sales metrics - customer wise, grade wise, geography wise
  • Team management – coaching and leading a team of 1 logistics officer and 2 sales managers in the two clusters – west and central Africa. The team will expand as we discover more markets.
  • New Product Development – working closely with R&D team to develop new application/cost down focussed products and solutions in line with the vision of ofi.  
  • Identify new business opportunities within the existing and in new geographic territories and market channels.
  • Manage shipment/logistics issues with customs, clearing agents that may come up.

 

The Candidate:

  • 5-10 years of B2B/Corporate sales/Key account management/Distributor management/Export sales experience preferably in food/agri-business sector especially in commodities like dairy, rice, sugar, oil, pulses, tomato paste, fertilizers, grains, pasta.
  • Fluent English, French professional level
  • Good analytical and maths skills - Ability to understand global demand and supply analysis for dairy
  • Regional *Africa experience esp. in west African markets is important
  • Flexibility to travel to relevant locations on a regular basis
